About the Author

Surinder S Jodhka is a Professor of Sociology at the Centre for the Study of Social Systems, School of Social Sciences, Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi. He specialises in the subjects of social stratifcation, agrarian social change, rural India, development studies and the dynamics of caste and community identities in contemporary India. He has published extensively including an edited book on Community and Identities: Contemporary Discourses on Culture and Politics in India (2001)
